SONOFF 4ch pro Control - No Router

This post will guide you to setup a Sonoff device without a router.

I bought this Sonoff 4CH Pro switch for my room cause I'm so lazy and want my Fan OFF/light ON to wake me up. I searched this for a long time to schedule my room's fan and lights. The timer devices available in online websites are very costly and single device use. I don't want that!!. I recently came to know about Sonoff and bought it on e-bay.in, the delivery delayed but really an awesome product.

For now I connected the Light & fan and with interlocking mode I can keep only one either Fan or Light ON at a time.

I don't have a common home router to make it work with. I am a bit techie but I don't depend on internet and don't want my family to get addicted to internet of stuffs. Yeah!! they are using limited data plans and living satisfactorily.

To setup Sonoff, you need two mobile with hotspot/Wifi options ( all the smart mobiles has it). Let's say one is primary(personal use/device controller) and another is secondary (temporary use for setup/ brother's or sister's mobile).

Before going further, thing you should know..

Advantages:
1. No router required.
2. Personal control.
3. No addiction to internet of stuffs and maintenance of an extra router and money for router plan.

Disadvantages:
1. You can't control from anywhere, that is you should be in a reachable distance.
2. Secondary mobile required.
3. You shouldn't change your hotspot name and password otherwise you have to change it back everytime if you make any changes.

Steps to Follow, (hope you connected sonoff to your Lights, fans and whatevers correctly!!)

1. Download eweLink app from Play store to both of your mobiles (or use share it).

2. Create an account only in your Primary mobile using your contact no. (selecting your country code), as it is text message (SMS) based activation.

3. In the next screen, type the OTP you received and type your own password.

4. Now create a hotspot with a standard name and password (Demerit) you never going to change.

5. In the secondary mobile Connect to primary mobile's hotspot with WiFi. Open eweLink in Secondary mobile and Login with Contact no. and password with which you created an account in primary mobile.

6. Now press the + at the bottom of the screen to pair your mobile with sonoff device.

7. Long press (10 seconds) any button on Sonoff untill the Wifi indicator light blinks repeatedly ( Pairing mode).

8. Select the first option(frequently blinking) in your secondary mobile and select Next.

9. Now type the password for the hotspot you set in your primary mobile and select Next.

10. It will start pairing immediately and after pairing gives you an ID name which you can edit (Hall, Bedroom, Studyroom, office, security, Cameras, etc) as you wish.

11. THAT'S IT!!!!! You succesfully paired your device to sonoff. Now you can uninstall the App in secondary mobile. The switches automatically will come in your primary mobile.

12. Whenever you want to control Sonoff , your primary mobile hotspot should be ON and reachable by Sonoff device.

13. Further you can control it by voice using google assistant in your android (Cooool!! right?), description video link below.

BSNL Data Card in Windows 10 creators update

I have BSNL data card which worked fine in windows 10 but after the Fall creators update by Microsoft, my BSNL usb modem stopped working. It was at first very difficult to look for a solution cause my data card was not working in my laptop.

I first go to my guts feeling about a solution (not worked!!!) and ended up BINGing (toped up my mobile data and shared it via hotspot). I saw many posts in Microsoft forum reporting the same problem for different software and tried the solutions suggested by experts such as update drivers, troubleshoot compatibility, disable Antivirus and firewall while installing and nirsoft packages etc. Nothing Worked for my problem.

I found an option to create DUMP file of a process(application) provided by Windows in task manager. I created a Dump file for my process and opened it in Notepad. Found some error (TLOSS error..) texts and updated/repaired all my redistributable C++ in my laptop. It didn't work.

Finally I deep searched on BSNL website for any updates or FAQs regarding same problem faced by any others and if any solution was provided. To my surprise there is nothing. But I found a hint about the USB modem manufacturer and its model.

Binged again the manufacturer website and new driver update for the model. It turns out they released one new software for WINDOWS 8 and there was a standalone driver installer for windows 8. I tried my device software and installed the driver only software and hoped that it'll work. But it didn't. I uninstalled the software and ran my device setup installer in Windows XP, Vista and 7 compatibility modes, which gave me a new error. I remember this new error(not enough space to install) was the same I read in dump files I mentioned above.

Uninstalled my device software.

With my every instinct saying the opposite except one, I installed the new software provided by the device manufacturer. In the past I thought this will not work, because the software in my USB modem was custom made by BSNL with their own settings and Logo. But It WORKED. The software I downloaded from the manufacturer website recognised the device and applied the settings automatically. That was my TWO WEEK Solution ( almost lost my sleep).

So, here are the links:
